extending your range
up is earned, never forced.
up is earned, never forced
range is not a number you win — it is the byproduct of a balanced instrument. push for a high note with the throat and you'll get it a few times, then lose it for a season. build it with breath and resonance and it stays.
the passaggio — the 'gear change' where your voice switches registers — is where most singers stall. smooth that transition and the range above it tends to open on its own.
the slow way
- siren through the passaggio daily; don't avoid the crack.
- add a semitone a month, not a week.
- sing the top note soft before you sing it loud.
